playing good granddaughter
On Sunday 1st June, my mother, sister and I drove up to Auckland. Mum and I, plus a few others, went to see Priscilla, the Musical! It was a fantastic show! Lots of crazy costumes and plenty of songs (some of which weren't in the movie and were WAY to old for me to know). There was even an entire bus on the stage!!
That evening, Jo, Mum and I flew down to Christchurch, in the South Island. My uncle Mark picked us up (Mum's eldest brother) and we stayed with him the night - we arrived about 9.30pm. The next morning, we borrowed uncle Mark's car and headed down to Geraldine (close to 2 hours south of Christchurch) where Nana lives.
We sent Jo in first with some flowers. She said to Nana that she was just passing through and wanted to say thanks for her birthday card. She didn't seem to surprised, for some reason. They had moved to the kitchen when I headed to the door. She saw me through the window and was a bit more surprised. She ushered me inside without even seeing Mum right behind me! When she finally saw Mum, so had the biggest smile and was getting rather excited (or shocked!). She was stunned - it was great! Did I mention that we didn't let her know that we were coming??!!!!
For those that know Geraldine, you'll know there isn't much to do. There are only so many times you can walk into town (10 mins from Nana's). We played a lot of cards and also caught up with Nana's sister. I haven't seen Aunty Ellen and Uncle Bruce in 4 years! Also got to see Aunty Sue (one of Mum's brother's wives).
It was a flying visit, but it was all about Nana. We needed to assess her health and well being, as Mum had been told many different stories from people. She's pretty good - a bit more forgetful, but still doing good.
Here are a few photos from the week:
